As any prominent honors show draws close, you'll find a demand to include of new categories to acknowledge underappreciated efforts and satisfy the hearts of enthusiasts with niche passions.
My colleague has already made supporting a scary games classification. That would be fantastic. The same goes for strategy board titles, which is someone's personal cause. However, I must insist if I try to elbow in front just as with other blinkered fanatics, there's a strong justification backing this proposal is the most urgent above others. Here's the proposal: There should be a classification for brain-teasing titles.
The Genre Classification Challenge
Classifying creative works is not a science; opinions vary greatly, and typically spark debates concluding with vague boundaries. It's understandable that movie academies avoid this approach. However, it represents a necessary evil within the realm of video games, which are so diverse it's challenging to consider them a single creative category.
For comprehensive acknowledgment of achievement in video games to be recognized, and for games of all stripes to compete fairly, genre categories are essential.
Present Award Structure
Leading game ceremonies offer these classifications covering Action-oriented games, Adventure-action titles, Role-Playing, Combat games, Sim/Strategy, and Sports/Racing games. Together, these award types effectively encompass many game types, allowing placement for most games within them.
Different situation exists for puzzle games. There’s simply nowhere to accommodate them. Consider three of recent excellent titles, all very different: building puzzles of one title, fast-paced pattern recognition from another release, engaging interpersonal challenges from additional release. Where could they possibly go within current classifications? Unfortunately, nowhere.
Acknowledgment Issues
Many instances occur excellent brain-teasers released every year lacking appropriate categories during gaming ceremonies, if they accidentally match classification types such as Mobile Game, Virtual reality experiences, and the highly challenging Indie races.
- A renowned logic title got overlooked in any category that year
- Another imaginative release received no nominations that year
- Popular arranging title got ignored recently
- Just some puzzle games managed to sneak into small studio or handheld classifications
Significance of Puzzle Games
These are often modest productions, yet the craft of the puzzle game holds tremendous importance. Well-known matching games count as most popular titles globally continuing this trend for over a decade.
The legendary block-stacking game challenges popular creative games competing to become best-selling game of all time; it’s also in the running for top gaming experience. Puzzle games are foundational for gaming as medium, and they are in conversation with diverse game types.
Recommendation and Reasoning
Puzzle games wouldn’t have such difficulty. One could readily select multiple candidates engaging, different, qualified experiences annually without trouble — or rather, with difficulty, because you’d have to leave so many good games out.
And to reiterate, these represent titles without proper classification at major gaming awards. Logic title developers operate at the hard edge of video game design, producing among the purest expressions within interactive entertainment. Just like film action specialists, they merit acknowledgment. Let’s not keep them waiting generations.
